Contamination can compromise peptide stability and research validity. Maintaining sterile conditions during reconstitution and handling is essential.
Workspace Preparation
- Work in a clean, draft-free area
- Wipe surfaces with 70% isopropyl alcohol
- Use a laminar flow hood when available
Handling Protocol
- Wash hands thoroughly before handling
- Use gloves and avoid touching vial stoppers or syringe tips
- Wipe vial stoppers with alcohol before each puncture
- Use a new needle and syringe for each reconstitution
- Do not touch the inside of caps or stoppers
Common Contamination Sources
- Skin and breath
- Non-sterile equipment
- Contaminated solvent
- Dirty work surfaces
If Contamination Occurs
Discard the affected solution. Do not use contaminated peptide for research. Start with a fresh vial if needed. Document the incident for quality records.
